This is my favorite high fiber and very healthy breakfast smoothie recipe that takes no time to make. This a frozen fruit smoothie that uses Yacon syrup and protein powder along with the appetite suppressant of psyllium husk and crushed flack seeds. As far as breakfast smoothies go I like this best for helping me with constipation issues and it helps to keep me going regularly.
Because it contains psyllium husk and crushed flax seeds and Yacon syrup it can be considered a detox smoothie for weight loss also because of the metabolism boosting effects it has.
I will show you how to make fruit smoothies from scratch at home very easily that will help you lose weight, burn fat or stay regular depending on your health needs. All my healthy breakfast smoothies are good for you of course but some serve different purposes.
This particular frozen fruit smoothie has many different health benefits which the ingredient list below will explain in more detail. To watch me make this smoothie watch the video below.
My Yacon Weight Loss Smoothie Recipe
¾ Cup Frozen berries – very low calories and very high in antioxidants. These can be mixed or all one type. I chose frozen mixed berries for added flavor and you getting the ketones from the raspberries and the high antioxidants from the darker berries (Blueberries).
1 cup coconut milk – this milk is very nutritious because it rich in fibre, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous. Unlike cow’s milk, coconut milk is lactose free too!
1 table spoon of psyllium husk – this ingredient is great for appetite suppression because it expands making you feel full thus you eat less because you’re not hungry throughout the day. Psyllium is a natural and effective bulk-forming laxative that soaks up water in your gut and can trigger bowel movements much easier so drink lots of water throughout the day. Some people prefer to use more than just 1 table spoon each day and that fine too, it all depends of the effects your feeling so you can increase as needed if your not feeling full but take it slow to start.
1 table spoon of crushed Flax Seed – There are many health benefits from Flax seeds making it one of the most powerful plant foods on the planet. It can help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes but it’s most famous for its Omega-3 essential fatty acids the “good” fats. It also contains Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant effects. Did you know that Flax seed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods? A very important ingredient in your breakfast smoothie.
3 table spoons of yogurt – This can be any flavor or any type as long as you getting the probiotics benefits for weight loss and skin. Some people prefer Greek yogurt and that’s fine but it will thicken your morning smoothie so you may need to add a bit more coconut milk.
1 or 2 table spoons of organic Yacon syrup – Why organic? Because you want pure yacon syrup and not chemicals considering this is a detox smoothie. Yacon syrup is very high in fibre and is an excellent sugar substitute because it’s sweet. It’s a natural metabolism booster that will help you lose weight while lowering your bad cholesterol levels improving the health of your heart.
1 packet/scoop of protein – As far as protein smoothies go this recipe is one of the best because of the additional benefits it has from the ingredients listed above. There are many reasons for taking additional protein in the morning which include its ability to preserve muscle tissue, curb your appetite, repair and increase muscle tissue, boost your immune system, reduce stress and prevent some types of cancers.
I found that this is a great detox smoothie that adds more energy to my day and this is the only thing eat for breakfast at least 4 times a week, the other days I try to eat more bran with some sort of fruit in the morning as I am almost 50 years old and I need all the help I can get to keep me regular.
If you have a slowing metabolism like me, I found that the Yacon syrup really helps to give me more energy (it’s noticeable) and this in turn got me doing push-ups and jumping jacks every other day.
I cut back on greasy high fat foods (Not completely as I still have cheat days) and in my first week of trying this healthy breakfast smoothie I lost some weight that was very noticeable to me and my family. This motivated me to create other healthy breakfast smoothies that everyone can enjoy while changing to a healthier lifestyle.
